SUV lovers are getting fired up about the new 2025 4Runner that's expected to arrive in the fall of 2024 according to the Toyota USA Newsroom. The fifth generation had a great run for a decade and a half and it's now being replaced by the new sixth generation model. The 2025 Toyota 4Runner will offer you a choice of two inline-four cylinder powertrains, one of which is a pure hybrid. It will also come with other valuable upgrades so let's take a look at the coming 2025 Toyota 4Runner that will arrive soon at Newburgh Toyota in Newburgh, NY.

Fundamental characteristics of the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner

The 4Runner continues to be an off-road mid-size SUV that's getting a complete redesign for the 2025 model year. That overhaul will include a new platform, new powertrains and new styling. The suspension system has been re-engineered to give you a more comfortable ride and yet Toyota won't compromise in terms of capability when you want to go off-road. The 2025 4Runner is expected to offer more interior space and more advanced technology.

What's new in the 4Runner for 2025?

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner has a number of significant revisions for the latest model year including:

  • The new 4Runner adopts Toyota's TNGA-F global truck platform, the same rugged foundation as the Toyota Tacoma, the most popular mid-size pickup in America
  • The design has been updated both on the inside and outside
  • This vehicle now offers two inline-four-cylinder powertrains including a pure hybrid
  • Three new trim levels have been added: TRD Sport Premium, Trailhunter and Platinum
  • There's now an available Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism
  • The new 4Runner will offer an available 14.0-inch touch screen
  • The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system will now include Proactive Driving Assist
  • The V6 engine and the SR5 Premium trim level are being discontinued

Engines and performance options in the 2025 4Runner

Every new 2025 Toyota 4Runner will be equipped with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 278 horsepower and is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. You'll have your choice of rear-wheel drive or an available four-wheel drive system that includes a two-speed transfer case with both high and low range as well as Toyota's Active Traction Control system.

The 2025 4Runner will give you several off-road equipment choices including a locking rear differential, disconnecting stabilizer bars and an off-road cruise control system. Hybrid models offer manually adjustable dampers, downhill assist control, a new remotely controlled automatic anti-roll bar disconnect and a multi-terrain monitoring system.

The 2025 4Runner introduces a new overlanding model called the Trailhunter

The new Trailhunter trim will have ARB 2.5-inch forged shocks with a special roof rack as well as rear external piggyback remote reservoirs. It will also come with brass rails, high-strength steel skid plates and 33-inch all-terrain tires. Ground clearance increases by 2.0 inches in front and 1.5 inches in the back. The Trailhunter model will be equipped with a 2400-watt AC inverter that sends electricity to outlets in the cabin and cargo area.

A new safety system in the 2025 Toyota 4Runner

The previous collection of 2024 safety technologies have been replaced by a Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. It includes safety features like lane-tracing assist that helps keep the 4Runner centered in its lane and Proactive Driving Assist that will apply a touch of the brakes when you're driving into a curve. Other safety features will include automatic high-beam headlights as well as upgraded versions of automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
